Our judging standard is excellence. Michael Charles, President of the Inland Theatre League, says that excellent performances should rise to the top, if you have to think about it too much, then it is probably not excellence.
We look for excellence in the performers, but also those behind-the-scenes. Judges have nominated producers, directors, music directors, choreographers, scenic designers, lights, sound, properties, program design, lobby decorations, and entire orchestras. If it is excellence, then it is deserving of a nomination.
Sometimes a production receives and ensemble award. An ensemble award is given to the entire cast as well as the director, music director and choreographer.
Nominations are entered into a database throughout the year. In order to receive a nomination, three votes from judges are required. Awards are given to nominees who receive a majority of votes from all judges attending the performance.
