Dinner to honor John and Toni Lynd

An elegant evening awaits sweethearts who fancy dinner and dancing.

Last-minute tickets to the Sweethearts Ball, honoring Chino couple John and Toni Lynd can be purchased through Tuesday, Feb. 7. The ball is on Feb. 11.

The event, hosted by the Chino Community Center Corporation, recognizes a local couple each year for their contribution to the arts.

Mr. and Mrs. Lynd, who married on stage at the Chino Community Building in 1991, met during a Chino Community Theatre production of To Kill a Mockingbird. (Read on …)

Western University seeing actors for standardized patients

Western University of Health Sciences in Pomona has a recruitment event coming up in January. If you think you might be interested (or know someone else who might be), contact Ken Lay at ken-lay@sbcglobal.net for more information.

A “standardized patient” is a person who has been trained to accurately and consistently portray a medical patient and participate in a simulated office visit where student doctors ask questions and/or conduct a basic physical exam. Pay ranges from $15-25/hour and the work is open to all ages and ethnicities. Jobs are usually booked days or weeks in advance and are offered based on demographic requirements of individual cases.

In Memoriam: Denise Dales Jacobs

Denise Ann Dales Jacobs, outstanding instructor and person with extraordinary talent and gifts, passed away suddenly last week.

In addition to her wonderful school and teaching careerat San Bernardino Valley College, Denise had a amazing professional performance career. She can be seen dancing with Michael Jackson in the “Thriller” video, she has performed on stage with Bob Fosse and Ben Vereen, and she was a cast member of “The Rocky Horror Show” in the original stage production at the Roxy Theatre in L.A. Just to name a few. She was an amazing teacher, director, and choreographer.

A Memorial service will take place at All Saints Episcopal Church, 3847 Terracina Dr., in Riverside, on Saturday, July 23rd, at 2:00 P.M. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to the San Bernardino County Humane Society.

Pass Area Performing Artists seeking directors

National Youth Arts honors IE groups

National Youth Arts is excited to announce the winners and nominees for the 2010-2011 season which honors outstanding work by youth in the arts. This year more than 200 productions were considered for the awards, including shows from more than 100 different theatres in more than 50 cities spanning 12 states. Formerly the National Youth Theatre Awards, the organization is now beginning to honor other youth arts including Music, Dance, Film, Writing and various other art forms.

AACT Festival deadline extended

Chino Community Theatre has extended the deadline for theatres interested in participating in the American Association of Community Theatre State Festival, to be held April 15 at Seventh Street Theatre in Chino. The deadline for entries is now March 10, 2011. Paperwork and fees must be received by that date in order for a theatre to  perform at the festival.
