With fifteen million copies in print, the story of Pastor David Wilkerson’s crusading outreach to the street gangs of New York City is powerfully depicted on stage. This poignant drama displays how one man’s faith and loving commitment to rescue young people mired in drugs and violence led to the transformation of countless lives and the creation of internationally known service organization Teen Challenge.
The Cross and the Switchblade opens Saturday evening, February 27, 2010, and continues through March 28, 2010. Performances are Fridays at 7:30 PM, Saturdays at 2:15 PM and 7:30 PM and Sundays at 2:15 PM. In addition to the weekend performances, there will be a special Thursday performance on March 25 at 7:30 PM. The 7:30 PM performance on Saturday, March 13 will also feature an interpreted presentation for the deaf.
Advance ticket prices are $14 or $18 for adults and $7 or $9 for children ages 3-11 (no children under 3 are admitted) and can be purchased over the phone with a Visa or MasterCard by calling (909) 335-3037, ext. 21. Checks can also be mailed to LifeHouse, provided reservations are made far enough in advance. Tickets may also be purchased in person at the box office, which is open Fridays from 1:00 PM to 6:00 PM and one hour prior to performance times on the weekends. This original adaptation of The Cross and the Switchblade, written by Cathy Flores, is directed by award-winning director Jordan Beck. Joining Beck on the production staff are set designer Tim Mahoney and costume designers Debbie Rao and Beverly Bishop.
“We are pleased and honored to be presenting a story that needs to be told,” comments LifeHouse founder and president Wayne Scott. “This drama is one of the most powerful and moving we have ever presented and will surely affect our audiences profoundly. As this production addresses adult issues, such as drug addiction and gang violence, I would encourage parental discretion. But this amazing true story will bring hope and inspiration to those who have experienced difficulty in life.”
The Cross and the Switchblade features Jeremy Kruizenga as David Wilkerson and Taylor Joseph as Nicky Cruz. Also featured are Jonathan Blair as Jo-Jo, Terence Dyck as Israel Narvaez, Skye Scheer as Gwen Wilkerson, and Lauren Mosher as Maria.
The theater is located at 1135 N. Church St. in Redlands, next to the Redlands Christian School. Free parking is available in back of the theater. For more information, please visit our website at www.lifehousetheater.com.
