CAST Players of Beaumont is pleased to offer two holiday one-act plays; written and directed by Annette Tringham.
In All I Need For Christmas, the employees of the Emotional Helpline have persuaded Thomas Wellmore, a self-centered yuppie to volunteer on Christmas Eve to man the phones. As the evening wears on and no one calls, he becomes increasingly irritated and his true character is revealed. At midnight, a cleaning woman enters with her young son, Christopher, and through interaction with this mysterious child, Thomas is forced to examine himself; learning what is really important in life. Eleven year old Benjamin Taylor portrays the relentlessly questioning child; perfectly balancing the selfishness of Thomas, played with charm and smarm by Alex Warren. The Helpline employees, played by Debbie Cochran, Stephanie Parshall and Susan O’Connell are integral characters in both of the plays; tying them together.
The second play, Auld Lang Syne explores old acquaintances and new resolutions when Bernie, played by Jim Dieli, comes to the Helpline office on New Years Eve to find his college sweetheart more than 40 years later. It’s out with old, in with the new in this lighthearted look at love and change at any age.
