Auditions for Chino Community Children’s Theatre production Once on This Island will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 27 and 28. Jessie McLean directs.

On  August 27, auditions will be held at the Chino Community Building, 5443 B Street and on August 28, they will be held at Seventh Street Theatre, 13123 Seventh St. in Chino.

Auditioners should come prepared to sing along with a karaoke track or a cappella. Anyone who plays an instrument is encouraged to bring it along as well. Children should wear clothes they are comfortable dancing in. Performances are Oct. 21 through Nov. 12 and all conflicts must be listed at the time of audition.

The tale is a Caribbean adaptation of “The Little Mermaid.” A poor peasant girl rescues and falls in love with a wealthy boy from the other side of her island. The strength of her love will be tested by prejudice, hatred and death.  Children ages five to 18 are eligible for casting.

Victor Hugo’s classic masterpiece storms the stage in this new dramatic presentation of his stirring story.  Witness the astounding journey of Jean Valjean as he falls from grace and rises to redemption amidst the amazing events of nineteenth century France.

Performances begin Saturday, August 27, 2011 at 7:30 PM and will continue on weekends through September 25, 2011.  Performances are Fridays at 7:30 PM, Saturdays at 2:15 PM (except Opening Night) and 7:30 PM, and Sundays at 2:15 PM.  In addition to the weekend performances, there will be a special Thursday performance on September 22, 2011 at 7:30 PM.  The performance on Saturday, September 10th at 7:30 PM will feature an interpreted presentation for the deaf.

Advance ticket prices are $14 or $18 for adults and $7 or $9 for children ages 3-11 (no children under 3 are admitted) and can be purchased over the phone with a Visa or MasterCard by calling (909) 335-3037, ext. 21.  Checks can also be mailed to LifeHouse, provided reservations are made far enough in advance.  Tickets may also be purchased in person at the box office, which is open Fridays from 1:00 PM to 6:00 PM and one hour prior to and during show times on the weekends.  Tickets are $1 more the day of the performance.  Group rates are available for groups of ten or more.  Guests are encouraged to reserve seats early as many performances sell out.

In Memoriam: Denise Dales Jacobs

Denise Ann Dales Jacobs, outstanding instructor and person with extraordinary talent and gifts, passed away suddenly last week.

In addition to her wonderful school and teaching careerat San Bernardino Valley College, Denise had a amazing professional performance career. She can be seen dancing with Michael Jackson in the “Thriller” video, she has performed on stage with Bob Fosse and Ben Vereen, and she was a cast member of “The Rocky Horror Show” in the original stage production at the Roxy Theatre in L.A. Just to name a few. She was an amazing teacher, director, and choreographer.

A Memorial service will take place at All Saints Episcopal Church, 3847 Terracina Dr., in Riverside, on Saturday, July 23rd, at 2:00 P.M. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to the San Bernardino County Humane Society.

Yucaipa Little Theatre presents “Just Dance” Showcase

Yucaipa Little Theatre presents the showcase performance of the 3rd Annual Summer Dance Intensive, “Just Dance,” taught by Matt Walsh, trained choreographer.

“Kicking Old School” is the theme for this years performance and features such favorites as “Soul Man” and “I Want To Dance With Somebody.”

“The kids have worked really hard this summer and I’m so proud of their accomplishments,” said Walsh.  “Anyone who likes fun music and dance, please come to the recital.  It’s a great way to support the arts here in Yucaipa.”

Open auditions for LifeHouse Theater’s drama The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, will be Wednesday, August 10, 2011 from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM at LifeHouse Theater, 1135 N. Church Street, Redlands.

Auditioners should come prepared to deliver a one-minute dramatic monologue that displays their vocal acting and physical strengths, and should also be prepared to learn some movement if requested.  Auditioners will be heard on a first come-first served basis.  All are welcome and roles are open for men and women.  Men are especially encouraged to audition.
