Auditions: Listening and other skits at Performance Loft

Edward Albee’s Listening juxtaposes three characters—”The Man,” “The Woman,” and “The Girl”—and sifts through the tangled relationship they have evidently shared. The Man is amiable but distant; The Woman acerbic and bitter; The Girl is perhaps mad—a catatonic who has destroyed her own child. Elliptical in form and redolent with evocative overtones, the play weaves together its strands of conversation and soliloquy into a meaningful pattern of events—underscoring the inescapable fact that while we may listen we do not always hear, and our lives, for better or worse, are shaped accordingly.

The story for the other skits: There will be several different new works being performed about and or relating to communication. There will also be music acts as well.

  • Actors needed: 1 Male 40-50s, 1 female 40-50s, 1 female 20s, 3 males any age, 3 females any age.
  • Where: Performance Loft Redlands Ca 345 N. 5th Street in Redlands
  • Info: Auditions will consist of cold readings
  • Please come with schedule for Sept-Nov

Seussical is a fantastical, magical, musical extravaganza! Tony winners Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty (RagtimeOnce On This Island) have lovingly brought to life all of our favorite Dr. Seuss characters, including Horton the Elephant, The Cat in the Hat, Gertrude McFuzz, lazy Mayzie, and a little boy with a big  imagination–Jojo. “Oh, the Thinks You Can Think” captures the show’s spirit of imagination, as the colorful characters transport us from the Jungle of Nool to the Circus McGurkus to the invisible world of the Whos.

Choreographer -  Michael Milligan

Midsummer is the shortest and craziest night of the year when mischievous spirits are loosed to create wild and freewheeling dreams among the citizenry; dreams that are not bound by the logic of daytime or normalcy, yet mirror and expand on daily psyches.  Exhilaratingly fresh, risky, and fun!

One of the most uproariously funny musicals in recent years, Urinetown is a hilarious tale of greed, corruption, love, and revolution in a time when water is worth its weight in gold.

In grim Gotham-like city of the future, a 20-year drought has occurred. As a result, the government has banned private toiletries and the citizens must use pay-to-pee toilets regulated by a monopolistic company, the Urine Good Company, which charges exorbitant prices. Bobby Strong, the assistant custodian at the poorest urinal in town, decides enough is enough. With the help of the daughter of the CEO of the Urine Good Company, Hope Cladwell, Bobby ends up leading a rebellion which frees the citizens. This funny, tongue in cheek piece gets even funnier, sometimes hysterical, because of is clever take off on musical numbers from hit shows such as Annie, Les Miserables, Evita, West Side Story, Fiddler on the Roof, and other popular musicals.

The inspiration for the piece came from the author’s travels through Europe on a dime, where he found himself spending an exorbitant percentage of his budget on public toilets…yes, you PAY to pee in many European countries. Ruminating on this punitive tax, he found himself in Romania at a rally for Dictator Ceausescu. The scenes of brutish crowd control and intimidation linked with the prior injustice and….voila…Urinetown.

Performances begin Friday, 21st, and end Sunday, June 6th. Tickets are $25 and $20 with senior and group discounts available. In this economy, we want everyone to be able to see this humorous hit show. Tickets can be purchased by calling the Box Office at (909) 920-4343, or by visiting The Grove’s website at http://www.grovetheatre.com/.
