Auditions for God’s Man in Texas, the 2nd entry in RCP’s 3-show Summer Series will be held Wednesday, June 2nd at 7 p.m. at the Rialto Playhouse, 150 E. San Bernardino Avenue in Rialto. The play will be directed by Ken Lay and was written by David Rambo, a writer/producer for CSI: Crime Scene Investigation. Performance dates are July 30-Aug 1 and Aug. 6-8. Come prepared to read sides from the script.
This is a 3-man show and all parts are open:
- Dr. Jeremiah Mears – 40s, clean-cut professional, great voice
- Hugo Taney – recovering alcoholic/drug addict. Could be 35, could be 55, no one knows for sure (including Hugo)
- Dr. Philip Gottschall – 50s-60s (to play 80). Vigorous, sharp-minded, healthy. Definitely NOT the stereotype of a doddering octogenarian.
The story takes place at Houston’s fictional Rock Baptist Church, a mega-church with thousands of members – “the Baptist Super Bowl.” Gottschall has built the church over his lifetime but is now being asked to retire. He reluctantly agrees to a transition period and takes on rising star Mears as his co-pastor. But fears of alliances and secret agendas soon make it clear he is not ready to relinquish his power. When he begins to suspect that Taney, his long-time sounding board, is slowly shifting allegiance to the new co-pastor, tempers flare and egos collide within this trinity of men, leading to a sacrifice, a resurrection, and finally, salvation as God whispers to a listening heart.
