The Inland Stage Company features three workshops as part of the acting conservatory, starting in March. The New Actor Workshop, Shakespeare Workshop and Movement Workshop will take place monthly at the Esplanade Art Center in San Jacinto.

  • ISC Artistic Director Jim Marbury will instruct the New Actor Workshop, which caters to new actors young and old, 6:30 p.m. Monday, March 15.
“This workshop is for anyone that takes performing seriously that would like to improve their skills in a professional workshop environment,” Marbury said. “Attend this intense professional acting laboratory for the serious actor. Sharpen your acting skills and creative instincts by participating in acting exercises that will stretch your limits. We will work on monologue presentation, cold reading, classical technique and scene study based upon Viola Spolin, Konstantin Stanislavski, Sanford Meisner, Peter Brook, Jerzy Grotowski and a variety of workshop techniques.”
  • Shakespearean scholar Yvonne Flack will instruct the Shakespeare Workshop, 6:30 p.m. Monday, March 8.
“Through this Shakespeare workshop, students will learn the joys and challenges of navigating the bard’s works for the stage. Emphasis will be placed on interpretation and working with Shakespeare’s verse and prose language, through monologue and scene work, to convey meaning and character in a naturalistic way, comprehensible to modern audiences,” Flack said.
The class is appropriate for students of all levels and abilities, from novice to Shakespeare aficionado.
  • Movement workshop will be taught by ISC veteran Darcie Flansburg, from noon to 2, Saturday, March 13.
“The Movement workshop will help actors strengthen their stage presence by working on the physicalization of characters through various individual and group exercises,” Flansburg said. “This will be a very lively and collaborative workshop that actors of all levels of experience will enjoy
    and grow from.”
Students should wear movement clothes (no jeans) and close-toed shoes for this workshop.

The cost of the workshop is $15 for one session, $30 for 3 sessions and $50 for 5 sessions.

The workshops will take place monthly. The Shakespeare Workshop will take place the second Monday of every month. The Movement Workshop will be on the second Saturday of every month. And the New Actor Workshop will take place the third Monday of every month.
The Esplanade Art Center is located at 2181 W. Esplanade Avenue in San Jacinto.
