Seussical the Musical, an entertaining Broadway musical inspired by the fertile imagination of Dr. Seuss and his beloved characters, opens in Yucaipa on Thursday, February 11, at 7:30 pm.

With the guidance of award-winning director Christine Presley, both veteran actors and newcomers capture the magic known to generations who have enjoyed many of Dr. Seuss’s stories.

This show centers around Horton the elephant, originally from “Horton Hears a Who,” who tries to save the world of the Whos while being met with interference from the Citizens of the Jungle.  Throughout it all, The Cat in the Hat acts as narrator and, true to character, jumps into the action to mix things up.

The Cat in the Hat is played by Yucaipa High School Junior Garrett Peters;  Jojo is played by Kristen Lungstrum, a seventh grader at Park View Middle School; Horton is played by veteran actor Eric Lopez; Gertrude is played by veteran actress and choreographer Kelly Lopez, Mayzie is played by Amanda Presley, student UC San Bernardino;  Mr. and Mrs. Mayor are played by John and Kathleen Woolsey; and Sour Kangaroo is played by the versatile Hilary Peters, a Yucaipa High School alumnus.

Seussical promises to transport audience members of any age into the wonderful world of Seuss and is sure to delight with such songs as “Oh, the Thinks You Can Think!” “How Lucky You Are,” and “Green Eggs and Ham,” just to name a few.

Show dates are Feb. 11, 12, 13, 19, 20, 26 and 27 at 7:30 pm, with 3:30 pm matinee performances on Sundays, Feb. 14, 21 and 28.  A special performance for local school students will be Saturday, Feb. 27, at 3:30 pm.  Ticket prices are $8 for seniors, students and children  under 18, $25 for families, and $10 for adults.
