The Redlands Shakespeare Festival will conduct a second round of auditions for The Passion of Easter 1-4 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 31, at the Joslyn Senior Center, 21 Grant St., Redlands. The traditional Passion play production calls for a company of 50 actors to perform various roles. Auditions will consist of cold readings from the script. Many roles are still open.

“Many roles require little to no stage experience. There are a number of important crowd scenes, and we want to include everyone who wants to be a part of this historical event,” said Steven Sabel, artistic director.

Rehearsals for the production will begin Feb.1. Rehearsals will be conducted a few nights per week. Performances are scheduled for April 2-4 at the Redlands Bowl. The Passion of Easter will be a full-scale production fashioned after the Passion plays of historical tradition.

The Passion of Easter is based on and adapted from the books of Mathew and John in the King James Bible.

“All of the important scenes are included. The arrival in Jerusalem on Palm Sunday, the temple scene, the last supper, the trial and persecution, the crucifixion, and a very touching resurrection scene,” said Sabel.

The performances will be offered with no admission charge. Free-will offerings will be collected at intermission.
