Performance Riverside’s production has been faithfully and lovingly adapted for the stage from the original award-winning screenplay by Betty Comden and Adolph Green, with lyrics by Arthur Freed, and music by Nacio Herb Brown. Unforgettable scenes, songs and dances are brought to life, including the show-stopping title number – complete with a rain storm live on stage! David Engel, one of the creators of the Off-Broadway perennial hit Forever Plaid, is directing and choreographing the production. A six-time LA Stage Alliance Ovation Award winner, Engel starred as Singin’ in the Rain’s Don Lockwood in 2008 and 1999 at Cabrillo Music Theatre. The production is musically directed by Scott Smith, and produced by Producing Artistic Director Rey O’Day.

Singin’ in the Rain will feature top talent from Riverside and around the Southland. Actor’s Equity Artist Michael (Mishi) Schueller will play Don Lockwood, the role originally brought to life by Gene Kelley. Alyssa Marie, last seen in Performance Riverside’s September production of All Shook Up, plays Kathy Selden, and Casey Garritano takes on the physically challenging comic role of Cosmo Brown.  The cast, in alphabetical order, also includes Jordan Arana, Courtney Burfeind, Desmond Clark, Josh Elmore, Chelsea E. Franko, Karla J. Franko, Frank Gilleece, Donterrio Johnson, Rachel King, John Lynd, Rachel McLaughlan, Michael Milligan, Ann Myers, Linda Neel, Sam Nisbett, and Alison Vesey.

O’Day comments, “Singin’ in the Rain honors both MGM’s magnificent movie musicals of the 1940’s, and the revolutionary birth of the talking motion picture.  It’s a big, broad, rich musical about a glorious age in American film history. This show topped our list of requests for this season, and we are delighted to produce it.”
