Audience Needed: Live Taping of “Senior Moments”
The public is invited to attend the taping of two “Jan Fowler Presents: Senior Moments” television shows, hosted and produced by Jan Fowler, award-winning national columnist on senior topics, on Thursday, January 28 at The Orchard Event Center, 38490 Oak Glen Road, Oak Glen 92399. The programs mark Season Two for Fowler and will be taped in high definition before a live audience for regional and national airing and the public is welcome to attend.
“Get your friends together for a fun afternoon and see how a TV show is made without travelling all the way into Hollywood—instead we’ll bring show biz to you!” excitedly exclaims host Fowler. “My staff and I are sizzling with excitement over the terrific segments we’re producing in Season Two. They are timely, informative, inspiring, and entertaining!”
In addition to four sets of guest interviews, award-winning actors Jim Craw of Redlands Footlighters Theatre and emcee Howard Glenn-Rawley of Palm Springs will “warm up the audience” and provide comedy entertainment before and during the interlude between the taping of Shows One and Two. Disc jockey music from the 50s, 60s, and 70s will be played throughout lunch. Special audience member Don Munro, a frequent dancer on the ballroom dance circuit at senior centers throughout the Inland Empire, will also be honored for his 100th birthday.
The event will begin at 11:30 a.m. with a luncheon buffet offered at a senior rate of $6, immediately followed by the taping of two shows. Reservations are required and may be made by calling The Orchard at (909) 797-2629 with name, phone number, and number of reservations needed. Payment may either be charged to a credit card by phone or made at the door. To avoid disappointment, early reservations are advised due to limited seating. Deadline is January 18. Latecomers or last-minute show-ups will not be promised admission.
The audience is advised to bring a sweater or jacket as stage lights tend to raise the room temperature, requiring the room to be cooled. Also, chances of getting front-row seating improve if audience members are well-dressed and not wearing T-shirts, jeans, or shorts attire. Audience members must be at least 18 years or older.
Fowler, whose columns are published in newspapers and magazines in nine states coast-to-coast, has previously interviewed 50 local area guests who appeared on 28 segments ranging from medical and legal to social-recreational topics, which were taped in San Bernardino then aired throughout the Inland Empire. Many of her former guests will be present in the audience.
Fowler is quick to define senior moments as wonderful happy healthy moments, a season in life to celebrate and enjoy. “We have a lot of living to do and are definitely not falling apart! But it’s up to us to take good care of ourselves physically, mentally, spiritually, and emotionally.
“We seniors are the fastest-growing segment population in America and I believe we are entitled to our own show! One which focuses entirely on the needs, interests, and concerns of the 50+ crowd. But no one else has created such a show and I feel strongly that there must be a great need for it. Otherwise, why would so many people chase me down in grocery store aisles and follow me to checkout counters just to suggest future topics?
“Seniors have dreams too and my dream is to address the exclusive needs and interests of seniors nationally by seeing my shows aired all across America. “Even though”, she adds laughingly, “there are more people who have walked on the moon than have started a television career at my age! But I won’t allow that to deter me because I feel very strongly about my mission. After all, there are 36 million of us, with 71 million baby boomers rapidly coming up behind us.”
Segment topics for January 21 are: “How to Talk to your Doctor” (Clifford Walter, M.D., EMBA, Redlands physician), “The Art of Packing & Travel Tips for Seniors” (Ilene Cox, travel columnist and owner of Redlands Travel Service), “Taking Control of your Diabetes” (Janet Howard-Ducsay, R.N, BSN, CDE, Redlands Community Hospital Diabetes Nurse Educator), and “Self-defense for Seniors in Dangerous Situations” (Corporal Stan McCauley, “Police Officer of the Year”, Redlands Police Department).
Fowler has formed her own production company called “Jan Fowler Senior Productions”.
