California Baptist University Theatre Arts presents Arsenic and Old Lace by Joseph Kesserling, a farcial comedy revolving around Mortimer Brewster, nephew of two spinster aunts who are adored in their community for their acts of charity.  Mortimer pays them a visit, only to discover that one of their “acts of charity” is relieving lonely old men of a tedious existence.  Complicating matters are Mortimer’s two brothers, one of whom believes he is Teddy Roosevelt and another who returns home after having just escaped from a mental institution.  Add on Mortimer’s engagement to a minister’s daughter who lives next door and mayhem ensues as he attempts to do the right thing while ensuring that his family is properly cared for.  Arsenic and Old Lace is a perennial favorite, perhaps made most popular by the 1944 Warner Brox. film starring Cary Grant.
