Grove Theatre announces 2009 season
The Grove Theatre is proud to announce its season shows for 2009. This exciting season includes a lineup that is sure to please the entire family.
BARK! The Musical – February 20 – March 15. After a 2 year highly acclaimed run in Los Angeles, BARK! The Musical comes to The Grove Theatre. This rave new musical is about man’s best friend, as told and sung from the doggie point of view in doggie daycare. It’s “howlingly” funny with a six-member cast. If you love your dog, you will love BARK!
Forbidden Broadway – April 28 – May 2. Forbidden Broadway is a spoof of Broadway musicals. It has been playing for 25 years off Broadway and is closing its curtain for the last time on Sunday, March 1, 2009. It re-opens at the Grove Theatre on April 2, 2009 with all of the original costumes and scenery and cast. Some of the shows that are spoofed are: Les Miserables, Phantom of the Opera, Mary Poppins, Annie, Wicked, Oklahoma, West Side Story, and Avenue Q. Over 30 shows are spoofed in 97 minutes of fun.
Church Basement Ladies – May8 – June 7. This is the West Coast Premiere of Church Basement Ladies, which is a musical celebration of the church basement kitchen and the women who work there. They solve the problems of a rural Minnesota Lutheran church about to undergo changes in 1965. Funny and down to earth, audiences will recognize these ladies as they witness the church year unfold from below the house of God. Watch them handle a record breaking Christmas dinner, the funeral of a dear friend, a Hawaiian Easter Fund Raiser, and a steaming hot July wedding.
High School Musical 2 – July 10 – August 2, 2009. The second installment of Disney’s extremely popular series, finds student Troy Bolton stressing over getting a job, with the high cost of college looming over his head while trying to make sure that he and Gabriella Montez, his girlfriend, are able to stay together all summer.
Dear Edwina – September 25 – October 18, 2009. Thirteen year old Edwina, advice-giver and director of the Spoonapple Repertory Theatre, is taking her company through their final rehearsal in her parent’s garage. The rumor is that a talent scout will be in the Paw Paw audience looking to fill a final festival spot! Who will it be – Edwina, Scott, Bobbie, or Annie? A surprise ending brings this fun-packed musical to an exciting end.
