Auditions: Aida at Yucaipa Little Theatre

Yucaipa Little Theatre announces auditions for their production of Aida (Rice & John rock opera version). This production is a vocally demanding story about an unexpected, as well as forbidden, love across cultures told through an incredible score. Auditions will be held at the theatre on July 28 & 29. Kimberly Stewart Robel is directing, with Ken Corona as musical director.
Auditioners must come prepared with 16 bars of sheet music (accompanist provided) and be prepared, if asked, to sing from the show. Auditions will begin at 7 p.m. sharp. Please come in appropriate clothing and warmed up for movement audition, followed by vocals, and finally cold reading for specific parts. The ensemble for this show must be strong singers who dance and act. Regular rehearsals will begin Aug. 11. The show runs Sep. 25-Oct. 12.

Roles:
- Aida: (Late teens to mid-twenties) Lead. Very wide range mezzo. Needs to act well. Strong, powerful, prideful role.
- Radames: (Twenties to early thirties) Lead. Tenor. Needs to act well. Military bearing, strong character.
- Amneris: (Late teens to mid-twenties) Supporting. Needs to act well. Mezzo with rock belt. Princess, attractive, self-absorbed with looks, naive. Dance.
- Mereb: (Teens to mid-twenties) Supporting. Tenor. Sensitive character who might know too much.
- Zoser: (Forties to mid-fifties) Baritone. Supporting. Radames conniving father. Dirty politician type, sinister.
Ensemble will round out the cast, with the men of the ensemble playing the Egyptian soldiers, and the women of the ensemble playing the palace servants, and the entire ensemble playing the Nubian slaves. Ensemble must be very strong singers who can dance. They must also be comfortable with quick changes, and makeup modifications to play multiple roles. 6-8 male, 6-8 female. All ages.
- Amonasro: (Late thirties to fifties) Cameo. Spoken part. Aida’s father, the king. (Will consider casting from ensemble.)
- Pharaoh: (Forties+) Cameo. Spoken part. Obviously, the Pharaoh (Ameris’ father.) (Will consider casting from ensemble.)
