FTC Inland Theatre Works presents Two Gentlemen of Verona, in repertory with Othello, August 15-29.

Comedy, love and a bit with a dog. In Shakespeare’s earliest comedy, Two Gentlemen of Verona, he takes us on a journey from “boring” Verona to “fabulous” Milan to a lawless Italian forest. Proteus and Valentine are best friends, but the bounds and bonds of friendship are tested when they both want the same girl. See the original characters that would be echoed in his future plays, his first use of cross dressing, lovers that would reappear in a summer’s dream, and hints of many of his other future characters. Throw in a real dog (who may or may not bark in verse) and you never know what will happen.

Tickets: $10 general admission, $5 students and seniors

Performances will be held at the The Performing Arts Center at Arroyo Valley High School, located at 1881 West Baseline in San Bernardino. For reservations, call 909-954-4540 or visit www.inlandtheatreworks.org.

FTC Inland Theatre Works presents Othello, in repertory with Two Gentlemen of Verona, August 15-29.

Othello is unique among Shakespeare’s masterpieces for its purity of story and morality. A black man in a white society, Othello has earned immense respect and honored military position – but does he go too far when he woos Desdemona, the epitome of white beauty and goodness. Their marriage represents absolute virtue, which can only be destroyed by equal malfeasance. That degree of evil quickly provided by the Shakespeare’s most perfect villain, Iago who plots to vanquish the happiness surrounding him.

It burst onto the cultural landscape first as a smash hit Disney Channel original movie and the soundtrack climbed to the top of the Billboard charts. It’s the irresistible story of two teenagers – Troy Bolton, super-popular captain of the basketball team, and Gabriella Montez, super-smart transfer student and a genius in science class – who try to navigate the tricky currents of peer pressure to follow their dream and score the leads in the big school show. This production is a must-see not only for fans of the movie but theatre-goers alike.

Wednesdays just got dramatic! The award-winning Inland Valley Repertory Theatre (IVRT) will present The Man Who Came to Dinner, a comedy by the team of George S. Kaufman and Moss Hart.

It is the story of the larger-than-life radio personality Sheridan Whiteside, a fictional character modeled after Alexander Woollcott. After falling on an icy doorstep at the home of the Stanleys, a well-to-do Ohio family, Whiteside proceeds to hold the family hostage to his whims, making international telephone calls, inviting eccentric guests to call, and generally wreaking hilarious havoc. Kaufman and Hart’s comedy first appeared on Broadway in 1939, and the revival was produced on Broadway in 2000 with Nathan Lane as Whiteside. IVRT previously produced the play in 1994 featuring a local celebrity, the late actress Nedra Volz.

The Man Who Came to Dinner will run with one matinee performance, Wednesday August 13 at 1:30 p.m. and three evening performances, July 30, August 6, and August 13 at 7:30 p.m. on the stage at the Candlelight Pavilion in Claremont. (Read on …)
