Merry Wives, a comedic farce, and Shakespeare’s only play written about the “country folk” of his time, will play in the lovely ambiance of Keyways Winery on August 3, 5, 10, 11, and 12 and is directed by Sheila Havens Ryle, Founder and Artistic Director of Shakespeare in the Vines. The plot concerns one of Queen Elizabeth I favorite characters, Sir John Falstaff, who, down on his luck, tries to secretly woo two “moneyed” wives with identical love letters. But, they happen to be friends!   The ensuing revenge that they plan is the sort of material “I Love Lucy” was built on.  Lots of laughter is guaranteed.

In contrast,  Othello, under the direction of Beverly Stephenson, Founder/Executive Director of the Fine Arts Network, will be set in an early 1930’s speakeasy/jazz club.  This timeless tale of jealousy, treachery and tragedy is sure to incite anger and perhaps tears to even the most staid viewer. The beautiful Wien’s Family Cellars Winery will host this show on
September 7, 8, 9, 15 and 16.

Shakespeare in the Vines was nominated for four prestigious Inland Theatre League awards, and went on to win all four awards in its first season!  You won’t want to miss the second season.  Tickets are available by calling the wineries directly.  Keyways Winery: 877-539-9297; Wien’s Family Cellars: 951-694-9892.  For more information, visit www.shakespeareinthevines.org.
