Murrieta Repertory Theatre presents John Steinbeck’s Of Mice and Men, directed by Jim Marbury, May 19 – June 3.
For tickets, call 600-7273. MRT performs at the Murrieta Community Center, located at 41810 Juniper St., just two blocks west of the Murrieta Lowe’s.
Set during the Great Depression, this is the tragic story of the complex bond between two migrant laborers in Central California. They are George Milton and Lennie Small, itinerant ranch hands who dream of one day owning a small farm. George acts as a father figure to Lennie, who is a very large, yet simpleminded man, calming him and helping to reign in his immense physical strength. When Lennie is responsible for a tragic accident, George is put to the test of true friendship and compassion. Major themes in this American Classic are loneliness as well as companionship, alienation, mercy, compassion, and the importance of dreams. The story can also be read through a historical lens as a study of migratory workers during the Great Depression.
