Western University’s Standardized Patient Program seeks actors

Are you observant, detailed, and a fast learner with a good memory? Western University’s Standardized Patient Program invites you to attend their upcoming Recruitment Fair.

Participants in the Standardized Patient Program act as patients for the medical schools to help their students interface with real people. Actors are paid for each session.  This is an excellent opportunity to make some extra money while helping medical students develop their skills!

The first meeting will be held June 6 at the Bartlett Theater on the campus of Western University, located at 309 E 2nd Street in Pomona.  The meeting begins promptly at 9:00 am and ends at noon.

University Children’s Theatre of Riverside opens its Spring season with the energetic Wonderland the Musical.  Wonderland is an unabashedly silly adaptation of Lewis Carroll’s Through the Looking Glass. With hip-hopping music, it is an upbeat, coming-of-age story that audiences of all ages will adore! You’ll recognize some of your favorite familiar characters of Alice’s Wonderland along with meeting dozens of new ones. Adapted into a 90 minute musical by James DeVita and Bill Francoeur.

Although primarily intended for children, Wonderland also welcomes adults, who will find great enjoyment and merriment in these captivating performances.

This wonderful fun loving musical will begin Thursday, June 7. Reserved seats $12/$10 with a student/kids discount of $8 on Thursday & Sunday evenings only. San Jacinto Valley Shakespeare Festival will hold auditions for Taming of the Shrew and King Lear May 22 and 24 at 7:00pm in the Campus Theatre at Mt. San Jacinto College 1499 N. State Street.  Callbacks will be May 25.

Actors may audition for one or both shows. Be prepared to read from soliloquies, monologues and dialogue provided by the directors. You must be 18 years of age or older to audition. The role of King Lear has been cast. Rehearsals begin in June. For more information, call 487-3420.

Murrieta Repertory Theatre presents <em>Of Mice and Men</em>Set during the Great Depression, this is the tragic story of the complex bond between two migrant laborers in Central California. They are George Milton and Lennie Small, itinerant ranch hands who dream of one day owning a small farm. George acts as a father figure to Lennie, who is a very large, yet simpleminded man, calming him and helping to reign in his immense physical strength.   When Lennie is responsible for a tragic accident, George is put to the test of true friendship and compassion.  Major themes in this American Classic are loneliness as well as companionship, alienation, mercy, compassion, and the importance of dreams. The story can also be read through a historical lens as a study of migratory workers during the Great Depression. (Read on …)

Due to popular pre-sales demand, Riverside Youth Theatre has added an additional performance of High School Musical on Sunday, May 20 at 6:00 PM.

Riverside Youth Theatre is proud to present High School Musical, the story of two high school students: Troy Bolton, captain of the basketball team, and Gabriella Montez, a shy transfer student who excels in math and science. Together, they try out for the lead parts in their high school musical. Despite other students’ attempts to thwart their dreams, Troy and Gabriella persist and inspire others along the way.

Heartland Players Theatre in Yucaipa is excited to introduce two of our young directors as natives of Yucaipa-RaeAnna Blanck and Andrew Strachen.

RaeAnna Blanck’s directing debut will open our showcase with the performances of You’ve Got Text! on May 11 at 8:00 p.m. and May 12 at 2:00pm and 8:00pm. RaeAnna started working on the play in March, the first rehearsal was on April 12 with the young but very talented cast that she selected. RaeAnna has a long list of theatre experience as actress, technical supervisor, prop mistress and counselor for drama camps, but this will be her first time sitting in the director’s chair. She has a keen eye for detail, which no doubt, will prove to be a valuable quality for a director. (Read on …)
