Performance Riverside announces auditions for Dreamgirls
Performance Riverside announces auditions for Dreamgirls on Saturday, September 30 at noon in the Landis Performing Arts Center.
Dreamgirls, winner of six 1982 Tony Awards, follows the rise of a trio of women-Effie, Deena and Lorrell-who have formed a promising group called “The Dreamettes.” Though the “Dreams” become a crossover phenomenon, they soon realize that the cost of fame and fortune may be higher than they ever imagined. John Vaughan, award winning director, will return to Performance Riverside, Orlando “Lanny” Alexander will choreograph, with musical direction by Scott T. Smith. The auditions are for the roles of:
- Deena - 18-30. Young, slim, beautiful Diana Ross type. Mezzo-soprano with a belt mix. Must dance and hold parts extremely well.
- James “Thunder” Early - 20-40. Wild, showy song and dance man in the style of James Brown. Tenor who moves very well and holds parts extremely well.
- Marty - 25-45. Veteran music agent who guides the early “Dreams” with integrity. Baritone who moves well and holds parts well.
- Ensemble Males and Females - Young, energetic singers/dancers who must be versatile triple threats. All African-American except for one Caucasian male and two Caucasian females. All must dance and hold parts extremely well.
Performers need to bring a biography, headshot, sheet music, be prepared to sing at least 16 bars, and wear clothing and footwear suitable for dance and movement.
The Landis Performing Arts Center is located on the Riverside City College campus at 4800 Magnolia Avenue. Performances for Dreamgirls are on November 10, 11, 17 and 18 at 8 pm; November 11, 12, 18 and 19 at 2 pm; and on November 9 and 17 at 10 am.
