Yucaipa Little Theatre presents CATS
Yucaipa Little Theatre will present “CATS”, the phenomenal musical by Andrew Lloyd Webber, for two weekends, September 7 -17. Tickets are $10.00 for adults and $8.00 for children under 12 or seniors over 55. A family ticket for 2 adults and children in same household can be purchased for $25.00. Reservations are recommended at this theatre as seating is limited.
The Yucaipa Little Theatre has gathered an impressive collection of dancers and singers for CATS, which is considered one of the most ambitious and difficult production available for community theatres. YLT plans to bring the magic, music, and fantasy of CATS to their stage following all the choreography, costuming, and make-up that made it famous on Broadway.
CATS is based on T.S. Eliot’s Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats, and is brillantly put to music by Andrew Lloyd Webber. Throughout the show you are introduced to many different types of cats who have gathered for the Jellicle Ball and wait to find out which of them will be selected to go to the Heavyside Layer, or cat heaven, to be reborn into a new Jellicle Life and continue upon a cat’s nine-life destiny.
CATS first opened in London on May 1, 1981, and, in spite of skeptical reviews, became an instant hit running until May 2002! In 1982 CATS opened in New York and was also a huge success. On Broadway it played for 18 years and was declared Broadway’s longest running musical. National tours of the production are still going on today.
CATS is by far one of the best musical productions, and, even though Yucaipa is not quite Broadway, it is close enough for theatergoers throughout the Inland Empire. So, don’t miss this one. Director, Geri Marquez, states, “CATS is sure to be the greatest production put on here at the Little Theatre. We have many amazing talents cast, and they are putting an incredible show together following all the choreography, costuming, make-up, and special effects of the Broadway production.”
