Redlands Footlighters presents Bullshot Crummond, a zany comedy opening Friday, July 7, directed by Cynthia Lake. This last-minute season addition will be offered as a fund-raiser for the proposed lobby expansion project at the theater on Barton Road.

Bullshot Crummond, written by Ron House, Diz White, John Neville-Andrews, Alan Shearman and Derek Cunningham, is presented by special arrangement with Samuel French, Inc. The play runs Friday and Saturday evenings at 8pm, with Sunday matinees at 2pm, July 7 through 23.

Bullshot Crummond is a farcical parody of 1930s low-budget grade B detective films and takes much of its humor from outrageous attempts to recreate sight gags on stage that are normally reserved for the screen.

The Bullshot Crummond adventure begins when two malevolent Huns purposefully crash land onto the British coast in order to kidnap a famous scientist, to steal his formula for synthetic diamonds and to ruin international trade. The title character, an archetypal British officer, is hired to find this missing professor, to retrieve his formula and to save England and the world. During his travails, Capt. Hugh “Bullshot” Crummond meets the inventor’s daughter, a lovely English rose of the most overdone and genteel upbringing. Footlighters say their resultant relationship is one that could equal one found only in cartoons.

A handful of local actors play a dozen characters: Phillip Gabriel of San Bernardino leads the cast in the role of the stalwart Capt. Crummond; Buffy Guzenski of Redlands breathes life into the ingénue Rosemary Fenton; Vicki Janis of Redlands adds a commanding presence as the evil temptress Lenya Von Brunno; Kevin Kahn of Rialto portrays the second half of the villainous duo, Count Otto Von Brunno; and Craig Higgins of Colton races through seven additional characters.

The box office will be open for reservations Sunday July 2 from 12 noon until 5pm and on July 3, 5 and 6 from 4:30pm to 7:30pm. In addition, the box office will be open from 4:30 to 7:30pm on show nights and from 12 noon to 1:30pm on matinee dates. General admission tickets for this fundraiser are $15 with student tickets priced at $12.
