Heartland Players announces auditions for The Nerd
Heartland Players announces auditions for Larry Shue’s The Nerd will be held on March 28 & 29 - 7pm at the theatre.
Cast of Characters
* Willum Cubbert: Mid 30’s, an intelligent yet absent-minded architect. He is in love with Tansy. He is not only Axel’s landlord, but often serves as his straight man. He is a likeable fellow who, because of his good nature, often finds himself taken advantage of.
Tansy McGinnis: Late 20’s to mid 30’s. An intelligent, efficient, career minded woman. She is in love with Willum, but is about to move away from him for a new job as a TV meteorologist. Axel is her confidante and co-conspirator.
Axel Hammond: 30’s to early 40’s, a theater critic who rents his apartment from Willum. This guy is very sharp witted and simply can‚t resist making a joke. Willum and Tansy are probably his two best friends. He wants to see them stay together.
Warnock Waldgrave: 40’s to early 50’s, he is one of Willum’s biggest clients. He has absolutely no appreciation for art, beauty, humor or his wife and child. He is very wealthy and short on patience. He usually bullies his way through life. As the script tells us, he hasn’t smiled for 30 years.
Clelia Waldgrave: 30’s to 40’s, a schoolteacher, she is the long-suffering wife of Warnock and the over indulgent, wholly abused mother of Thor. She smothers most of her feelings about her abusive family.
Thor Waldgrave: 8-year-old son of Warnock and Clelia, this kid is hell on wheels. He is a thoroughly selfish, undisciplined, spoiled brat. He is the kind of a kid that is destined to be a successful CEO for a heartless corporation as yet to be named. (Note: This is a description of the Character, not the actor! This role requires a very mature individual as they are off-stage for a majority of the play. We are leaning towards changing this role to a girl.)
* Rick Steadman: Mid 30‚s to Mid 40’s, he is the nerd. He is socially inept and lacks any self-awareness. He never tries to annoy, but is one of the most annoying humans you‚d ever meet. He always says and does the most inappropriate things at the most inappropriate times. The actor playing this role must be able to do several different voices and play two different characters within the play.
*Note - These characters are required to briefly smoke on stage (herbal cigarettes will be used)
